THE VOTING. The voting for the Carnival Queen up till last evening placed the candidates in the following order: Miss Veta Gilbert 1 Miss Eileen McGuire 2 Miss Annio Hawke 3 Miss Glory Harrison 4 Miss Madge Henrichs 5 It is understood that hundreds of votes are being held back hy several of the committees.

Candidates, committees and their supporters are notified in this issue that the Citizens' Committee have decided to prohibit the sale of Queen votes during the progresss of the Carnival and Bazaar in the Theatre Royal. It is hoped the various committees and their sup. porters will abide loyally by this decision of the committee, as there is an abundance of time to dispose of votes after the Carnival is over and outside the Theatre during the Carnival. Committees in surmort of the various candidates in the Carnival Queen competition are continuing activelv to push their candidates' interests. At the Empire Theatre on Wednesday and Friday nights next, Miss Veta Gilbert, the musical and opera-tic societies' candidate, will sing well-known numbers from one of the Operatic Society's recent productions. The East End oommi'tec's troupe, which scored so heavily in its minstrel work on Saturday night, will he on the warpath again to-night. Members of the troupe will meet .at the. Red House Hotel corner. A social will be held in the East End pavilion on Thursday night. Lovers of good music will armreciate this latest effort on behalf of Miss Hawke, the sports candidate. Her committeo has arranged a concert for Thursday night, at the Good Templar Hall. Mr Van Heck's orchestra will take part, and the programme will include items from the best talent available.
