An Imperial Bill has been introduced to allow betting on horse racing only, and licensing bookmakers to operate in places approved by the police. The tax will be levied on book beta, as is the case with the totalisator, which continues to be authorised. CHARGE OF BLASPHEMY. ' St. Petersburg, March 22. Proceedings have commenced against Maxim Gorky, on the charge of blasphemy preferred in 1905, in connection with one of his novels. STRAP-HANGERS OBJECTED TO. Sydney, March 22. The tramway men have commenced a crusade against strap-hanging. They contend it interferes with the proper discharge of their duties. THE EXETER DISASTER.
