WHEAT SUPPLIES AND PRICES. London, March 22. Wheat.—Steady; 30s 3d is asked for an Australian shipment. Liverpool March 87'/ s cents, Chicago May 93% cents. The wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,015,000 quarters: for the Continent, 2275,000 quarters; Atlantic shipments, 469,000 quarters: Pacific, nil. The total to Europe is 1,315,000 quarters; Argentine shipment 175,000 quarters, Russian 285,000 quarters, Danubian 80,000 quarters, Australasian 221,000 quarters, HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. (Note: Quotations, unle-s otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):—
Mutton.—Tlie market is weaker, though not actually lower. North Island, 4'/;.<l per lb. The demand has been chiefly for light-weight, at as high as 4%d; heavy-weights, 4 1 / B d. Lamb. —The market is weaker, and has a tendency downward on account of large supplies coming forward. The weather lately has been unfavorable to the sale of lamb. There is little demand for Canterbury, as buyers prefer North Island at lower prices. Canterbury, nor H>, 6%d, heavy-weights fi%d, other than Canterbury 6'/,d for light-weight. 1 Beef.—The market is very dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. New Zealand hinds, per lb, 4 l / 2 d; fores, 3%d; chilled hinds 4%d, fore* 3%d.
Butter. —The market is dull and prices irregular. New Zealand stocks have accumulated lately, and holders are disposed to meet buyers at lower prices, as at present the supplies exceed recmirements. Danish, in fair dmand, ner cwt.. 122s to 1245; New Zealand, salted 109s to 112s, unsalted 110s to 118s. The Australian market is oniet at 100s to 110s. The Argentine market is dull at 104s to 108s. The Siberian market is steady at 108s to 110s.
Cheese—The market is stcadv, with fair business doing. The Canadian supply is running short, and holders are firm. There is fair demand for New Zealand, and tins market is steadier. Canadian, white, per cwt.. 08s to 70s; colored, 70s to 71s: New Zealand finest white 02s to C2,s fid. exceptionally fine 03s. fine 01s to (ils (id; finest colored G4s fid to Ofis, fine 03s to 03s fld; Australian white 02s to 02s fid, colored 03* to firm. Hemp.—The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand eood fair per ton £25 lbs, fair £22 10s; April to June shipments good fair £25 15s, fair £?i; Manila fair current £27; April ti> June shipments fair current £2O 10s. The output from Manila for the week wa? 18,000 bales. Peas. —The market is firmer and stock moderate. Cocksfoot.—There is better demand for cocksfoot seed. Hops.—The market is steady, with moderate demand.
