THE "CALLIOPE" COAL.

AUSTRALIA MUST HAVE WESTPORT FOR THE NAVY.

By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, March 21.

Senator Milieu, Minister of Defence, states that after exhaustive tests it has been decided that the Australian navy cannot use Australian coal, owing to the large percentage of ash clinker and smoke it produces. The navy will have to use Westport coal as in the past.

This statement was made in connection with a published article declaring that the boilers of the battleship Australia have already been ruined by the use of Australian coal. This is officially denied.
