Eeid, of New Zealand. KIKUYU CONTROVERSY. London, March 19. The BisTiop of Zanzibar, who charged tho Bishops of Uganda and Mombassa with heresy, owing to the holding of'a common communion service at Kikuyu, proposes the formation of a council on which episcopal and non-episcopal churches, also Africans, shall be represented, avoiding difficulties concerning the ministry and sacraments. One feature will be a common service of prayer. / - 3 WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. Washington, March 10. The Senate defeated the i women's suffrage amendments by 44 to 21. A two-thirds majority vote is required to carry such a resolution. CLEANING SYDNEY. / Sydney, March 20. The Town Clerk reported to the Council that the cost of cleaning Sydney had risen from £38,658 in 11)05 to £100,634 in 1913. The mileage of streets had increased only from 113 to 134. Increases of wages were largely responsible for the added cost. An alderman described the statement as a staggerer.
