SWIMMING.
AN INTERESTING CONTEST. A very interesting contest, which! was witnessed by a large number of spectators, took place at the Municipal Baths last night, when eight members of the Hawke and Stohr families swam a relay race against the' best eight chosen from the rest of the club. A keen contest resulted in a dead heat. The ladies of the two families gained the lead, but the men of the club team just succeeded in makin" up the leeway, and 0. Brown and A. V. Stohr touched simultaneously, the judge (Mr S. Paul) being unable to separate them. Mr W. Whitaker was starter. the distance was 320 yds. The teams were as follow: —
Misses A. Hawke, I. Hawke, D. Hawke, M. Stohr, and Mcssrg. A. V. Stohr, J..' Stohr, K. Stohr, and S. Hawke, versus Misses Mouat, K. Johnson, H. Hollo, If. Tiplady, and Messrs. C. Brown, A. B. Standish, G. Hawkins, and A. Bacon. A sports meeting will be held in the baths next week, when the nrocceds will be devoted to assisting the club's candidate (Miss A. Hawke) in the Carnival Queen competition.
EAST END v. WEST END. A relay race for the McAllum Cud between East End and West End teams will be swum at the Municipal Baths this week-end. The teams will be as follow:—West End: A. V. Stohr. X Stohr, G. Hawkins. S. Hawke. C. D. McAllum. R. Bowie, and A. Bacon. East End: C Brown, K. Stohr, A. U. Standish, J. Haldane, C. Kelly, Bell, W. Whitaker, and Sykcs.
