INGLEWOOD SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHEIILV:. Splendid weather prevailed for 22nd annual gathering, held yestcrda;.. under the auspices of the Inglewood Athletic Club, and the financial results must have been such as to make the cngetic, hard-working, courfeoii-', am! r•bane secretary, Mr J. Cibhs, and his band of co-officials, pleased with the r»sult of their efforts. The gate takings were £33, nearly double last year's, whilst all the events -had- well lilled, so t 1 at a handsome margin of profit slruiei ic.iult. The. spectators thoroughly en-jcyc-u the day's sport, for everything was pushed forward with a swing, and despite the absence of a band, there was not a dull moment. Fields were good, and finishes were close, showing ' the local handicappers, Messrs. J. Gihlis, W. Henry, and A. Lile, acurately guaged the merits of the competitors. Save for some little dissatisfaction in' one chop, the judge's decisions were, never questioned. Until the kinematograph is introduced in chopping contests, there will always be dissatisfaction in adjudicating on these. The judges were: Chopping, Messrs. ]<\ Spurdle, 0. Seabright, and W. E. Percival; running. Messrs. G S. Kennedy. 11. Clough, and Father O'Beirne. The chopping men were capably despatched by Mr. F. Spurdle, and the runners bv Mr L. De Launay. Messrs. E. Maetzig and R. Geddes held the watches'. Mr W. E.. Percival, as chairman of the committee, kept a watchful eye on every department, and his experience proved invaluable. Messrs. H. C Williams and, E. Olscn assisted the secretary in his busiest moments, and proved successful understudies. , The children had a great time, numerous races being arranged throughout the day, and attracting fields of 30 and 4f). Messrs. Stratford and Scott had charge of this department. Mr J. Rivett controlled the catering in his usual first-class manner. The events resulted as follow: —
