Rear-Admiral [Viiry, after Connnan rfrfr Evans had lectured to a gathering i in the Carnegie Hall, deplored America's lack of interest in Polar exploration. Shackleton, Staekhouse, Mawson, and Koenig were doing great things for their respective countries, but the United States was conspicuous by iU absence.
THE GREAT COALFIELD.
Perth, March 19.
Professor David has returned. Dis cussing the Antarctic he said it was now proved that the coalfield was at least 1200 miles in length and a hundred miles in width. Probably it was wider.
AMUNDSEN'S PLANS.
Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 19, 11.35 p.m. Christiania, March 19. It is doubtful whether Amundsen is starting for the Antarctic in 1914. The Fram is delayed. She is expected tit San Francisco at the beginning of July.
