THE dARNTVAL QUEEN.*
Committees foe. the various candidates who have entered for the Carnival Queen contest are already getting "boa* ' in pursuit of the "needful" to buy votes. In the Brougham Stret Hall, last night, there was a krge attendance at a dance, given bv t»e pupils of Professor Cardaton, who have nominated Mies McGujrc. The floor was in excellent order, and dancine proceeded merrßy t»' music supplied by Mrs George's orchettrL Mr Touhey made an efficient ltd The East End Reserve Committee neM a very successful social and dance in their pavilion in support of their candidate, Miss Madge Hcnricks. The floor was well filled with dancers, and tko music and supper were aQ that eotfl be desired. Durinj the evening a number of enjoyable mnsieaKacd vocal items were contributed.
The Band Carnival, which oncns at 0.30 p.m. on Monday, the 23rd inst., wommes to ho the rendezvous of the revel. Icrs for the' week. The ladies' committee, under the Mayoress (Mrs G. W. Browne), and assisted bv a number of ladies from the East End Baza»fv£ft». mittee, are patiently waiting tin iojB» of 9 a.m. on the above date to preparo their stalls.
Professor Cnrdaton has made remarkable progress with his dancers, and tM ' ballets and panto, dances will be a rere™n to thp P u,,lic of New Plymouth. The election of Carnival Queen, ia proceeding at a hot pace, and the" Carnival Journal, which will be published every evening, will always contain something of interest to the various committees and candidates. The returning officer guarantees that all people are e • the roll, provided the- ft Te worth twopence.
To further the interests of their candidate, the Regimental Rand will render a programme of music on the Grosvenor Hotel balcony thin evening. Bandsmen will appear in mufti.
