POLICE PAY.
THE NEW SCALE. Bv .\i'i:- I ji'iij)li--Pr<)3B' Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A new scale of police pay has been issued by Mr Hcrdman, who says it h.is been found that the high rates cf pay earned in outside occupations make it difficult to obtain the" services of firstclass men for the police force. THfe force is now a ~ood one, but can be improved, and the new conditions of employment should tempt good men to join. It ig with tie hope that young Now Zealanders, not afraid of steady, hard work,"and who are prepared to submit themselves' to strict discipline, will offer their services, that the scale of pay has- been improved. The State is prepared to give good pav for good services. The new Bcale is': Superintendents.—Auckland, £4OO to £SOO per year, increment £10; Auckland, Wellington, Chrißlchureh and Dunedin, £4OO to £4OO, £lO every two years; Inspectors, £3BO .to £440, £lO per annum.
