Dynamite Outrage
BOMB SENT THROUGH THE I'O.jT. STATE OFFICIALS INJURED.. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright Received 16, 9 40 p.m. Melbourne, March 18. Among the morning mails delivered to the Lands Department was a package addressed to a members of the Closer Settlement Jioard. When the package was opened a loud explosion occurred, resulting in injuries to Frederick Lee, Closer Settlement Commissioner, Thomas Italic and Reginald Jones. The room was partly wrecked, the window smashed, and the ceiling shattered by brass bullets.
The explosive material is supposed lo have been dynamite. It was operated by a hammer-spring and a percussion cap, and was contained in a small wooden box. The package was posted at Sydney, but no theory is advanced as to the cause of the outrage.
