Quarrels between Arbitrationists and Federationists are of almost daily occurrence in the city, and men are constantly appearing in the courts charged with breaches, of pi\u:e, assault, etc. Two : cases were ventilated in the Polics Court to-day. In one case Thomas., Bates,' an ex-striker, was charged wi.th assault. It appeared that he me,t a man named Hargreaves, an Arbitrationist, and allowed Hargr.eaves to see. a photograph of the Strike Committee in which lie (Bates) figured. Hargreaves remarked disparagingly that "it was a wonder the camera didn't break!" Bates was so angry that lie struck Hargreaves. The latter promptly retaliated and blacked Bates' eye, knocked him down and sat on him until a constable came and took him to the jocklip. Ba.tctj complained that a witness who supported Hargreaves' statement was biassed against the old watetsid-s workers, who "were victimised men and not allowed to,live." The Magistrate sentenced Bates to. seven days' imprisonment.

In the other case, an ex-waterside.' was found guilty of using obscene language, and was fined £2.
