A Chinaman named Dong Sing was lined .Eli Is at the .Magistrate's <'oiirl, on a charge of possessing opium for smoking. The accused denied any knowledge of opium which Hie police found where he had just been sitting, and an elderly Chinaman, Sing r il!Ci who had previously been lined for a similar offence, declared that Dong was innocent. The Magistrate considered both gave perjured evidence, and remarked strongly on the fact.
