ENTERTAINMENTS.

IRISH NATIONAL CONCERT. The annua] Irish national concjit will be held this year in the Holland Hall, and an excellent programme will be submitted. Mr Charlie Austin, the champion euphonium soloist of New Zealand, will contribute an item. Mr. 1). Ingram, of Auckland, and Mms Kea, will assist in the vocal items, and Mr. Walter Key's comic songs promise to be a feature.

ELECTION OF CARNIVAL QUEEN. f The election of Carnival Queen in .connection with the Band Carnival, ; which is to be held in the Theatre Royal, commencing on Monday, 23rd inst, will prove that the New Plymouth folk are not such an apathetic and indolen community as they have often been dubbed by neighboring towns. Eleven candidates will be nominated as followes: Misses Madge Henrieks (East End Reserve Committee), Pansy Popplewell (Moturoa Seaside Committee), Glory Harrison (Band), Eileen McGuire (Professor Cardston's pupils), Ernestline Howell (Tradesmen's Association), Elsie White (New Plymouth Fire Brigade), Veta Gilbert (Dresden Piano Company), Annie Hawke (Football, Swimming and Sports Committee Mona Lealand (Fitzroy Bowling Club), Hilda Bishop (Agricultural Society and County ratepayers), Elsie Bennett (Friendly Societies). The various committees are going to make a real fight for it. Each is hopeful of returning its nominee. The result will be watched with great interest. A committee of influential citizens has been appointed to scrutinise the polling. The results will be published and displayed in prominent positions in the town. The ways and means of securing votes for the candidates by their respective committees, will be original. One party has a pierrot company on the way, and other novel means will be introduced. With this issue is given a free vote to all. Cut out the coupon appended to the advertisement, write the number and name of the candidate legibly, and drop the coupon in. one of the voting boxes around the town.
