Beautiful weather prevailed for the return niuU'h between Canterbury and Sims' Australian cricket team, which waa commenced at Lancaster Park today. Cody and Dolling stood out of the Australian team, and McGregor' kept wickets for, the visitors. Reese and W'liitta were unable to play for Canterbury, the skipper suffering from tonsilitis and VVhitta being out through an injured hand. Patrick was appointed to lead the local men, and Caygill; and 'BcaJ lilled the gaps. Patrick won the toss, and Woods and Caygill went, to open Canterbury's innings. Crawford, after having both batsmen in trouble, bowled Woods with the fifth ball of his first over. I—l—o. Hickniott filled the gap. In Crawford's third over he dropped a straight one on to Caygill's'toe, and got him. l.b.w. 8— 2—B. Beal followed. Hickmott was not timing them too well, and Dresently he lifted Crawford hard to Trumper at midoff. 13—3—3. Patrick joined Beal. At US Mailey replaced Armstrong. Beal placed one to short-leg from Noble, and Waddy snapped up a remarkably smart ! catch. 40—4—17. Sandman partnered his skipper. Runs came freely. At 91, Armstrong replaced Mailey. The century was put up for 92 minutes' play, the last 50 having come for just over 20 minutes' play. Each batsman was 35. At 106, Laver took the ball from Noble. and Patrick lifted him to the on boundary, reaching 40 and sending 120 up. Sandman got to 50 in 50 minutes. Patrick reached 50 with a lovely straight drive. This had taken him 90 minutes. Sandman stepped across to an off-ball, from Armstrong for* square-leg, hit, and chopped the ball on to his wicket. 147 —s—6l. The second century went up for 103 minutes. Jn Armstrong's over Carlton went out fof a hit", and was'bowled. 223 Bennett partnered Monaghan. The latter stopped a straight one with his pad, and was out, l.b.w. 242—9—21. Boxshall was the last man. The first ball of Crawford's next over, beat Bennett all the way, and the innings closed after three hours 25 minutes' play, ( Waddy and Collins onened for the visitors, Bennett and Carlton being the bowlers. In Carlton's second over, Waddy survived a confident appeal for l.b w. At 35, Monaghan replaced Bennett, and in his first over beat .Waddy badly, the ball just missing the wicket.
