NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. There was a good attendance of members at the annual Hireling of the New Plymouth Coif Club in the Town llall last night, Mr. .). Paton presiding. The annual report was as follows: The committee have pleasure in congratulating members upon a very successful season. Although it was the first on the new course, a few clubs have been able to use the full eighteen holes. The links were opened with the Easter tournament, which proved a success financially, although the grass was ,too long to allow of really first-class play. This was partly due to Easter falling very early, the club not having the proper plant to cope with the long grass, the growth of which was forced by the very damp, warm weather. The strength of the club has been well maintained, and this is most gratifying, as we had moved out to our new links. There is every reason to anticipate that there will be a large idilition to the membership during the coming season. The balance-sheet shows a satisfactory balance of assets over liabilities, but scarcely shows the true position, as a great deal of work has been done in icela ining the land near the sea and in improving the links generally, the whole of the wages in this connection having been charged to the working account. The committee suggests that the subscription be raised to £3 for men and £2 for ladies, and no entrance fee he charged this year. Great interest was taken in the inter-club matches last season, and it is hoped that the club, being the metropolitan club for Taranaki, will always take a. lead in these matters. A strong committee has been elected to take charge of the.Easter tournament, and the ground committee intend to have the links iu playing order some time before Easter. During the summer the ground committee have been exceptionally busy. New tees have been made, the bank around No. 18 has 1)0011 sloped, a new green has been made at No. 14, anil other improvements have been carried out by the caretaker. Arrangements have been made to have the golf professional, McOormick, engaged for the season by the Taranaki clubs. He started at tho beginning of March with the Hawera club, and will be in New Plymouth on April 15 for a fortnight, June for u week, duly 15 for n fortnight, and again on August 2G, and it is hoped that members will make full use of his services, otherwise we will not be able to retain his services. Since the last meeting Mr. (Ilasgow lias resigned his position on the committee, owing to removal to Wangnnui, his place being taken by Mr. F. S. .lohns. Tho balance-sheet showed a balance of assets over liabilities of ,C 331 (is 7d. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, enlarged upon several matters contained therein, thanked members for their loyalty to the (dub, and prophesied a successful season. The motion was earried without discussion. ELECTION OK OKKICEIIR The following ollicers were elected for the ensuing year. President, Mr. (!. 11. Burgess; vice-presidents, Messrs. T). K. Morrison. A.
