A standard certificate for the onemile walk was granted to G. Turner, of 1 Dunedin. Applications by Geo. Stephenson (Dunedin), and ,C. M. Stagpool (Marton) for re-instatement wer-> granted. Mr. Peixotto, manager of the American team, wrote protesting against tiie disallowance of Caughey's, shot-putting record of 45 feet and a quarter of nil inch at Palmerston North on account, of the absence of a guard board, and if was decided to refer the matter to I he Australasian Athletic Union. .T. The Waroa Athletic Club holds its annual sports gathering at the Warea Recreation Grounds to-morrow, .fudging by the nominations received,. particularly in the chopping and sawing events, the sports promise to be very successful. There is every prospect of ( line weather which ia all that is need"d (to ensure a large attendance and financial success. The committee have , spared neither time nor expense in their , arrangements. Van Ileek's orchestra has , been engaged to play on 'the ground ■ and also in the hall at the bail in the , evening. This, in itself, will provide a musical treat, Mich as coastal re.sidei.rs I seldom have the opportunity of listen- - ing to. KGMONT ANNUAL SPORTS. On Thursday the settlers of the Kgmont road hold their annual sports. This gathering takes the nature of a picnic sports meeting, and doubtless recollections of the pleasant tiifie spent at previous gatherings of a similar nature in Mr. 11. Sampson's picturesque grounds will cause a large number of visitors, as well as local settlers, to <ist scmble. All the sports events are post entry, but as a healthy rivalry for su- » premacy more than the value of the j stakes permeates contestants, there arc i certain to he large fields. Moreover, .• the programme is so arranged as to f provide sport and entertainment for all. - The hospitality of the Egmont road i people is so well known as to need no i elaboration, so that one can rest as- - sured the creature comforts will be attended to.
