The Butchers' Strike
FRESH PROPOSALS. SHOPS RE OPENED. MASTERS KILLING AND CARTING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 5, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, March 3. The Cabinet Committee submitted fresh proposals to the men's delegates, but the details havfe been withheld. These wore to be submitted to a muss meeting, but the Board of Inquiry dccided to postpone the meeting until Friday night in order to properly consider the proposals. Immediately all the big city shops opened there waß a rush for meat. As only a limited number of hands were available, from 300 to 400 masters attended at the abattoirs and took part either in killing or carting, the only Union labor engaged being at the put), lie slaughtering pens. The Homebush market was very animated, and the small supplies resulted in big prices being obtained. A BRIGHT OUTLOOK. AGREEMENT PROBABLE. Received 6, 1 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. It is stated late to-night that the result of the negotiations give every prospect of an agreement between the men and the employers to-morrow. SHOPS RESUMING. Sydney, March 5. The master butchers state that every shop in the metropolitan area will be opened to-day. They, allege that many volunteers have offered, including a number of unionist shopmen. They also claim that five thousand farmers and their sons are ready to come from the country if needed. The men deny that any unionists have returned. A meeting will be held this morning at which the leaders will explain the position so far as the offer of the masters to re-engage unionists is concerned.
