Overseas Guests

ENTERTAINED AT HOME. INTERESTING SPEECHES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, March 3. Mr. tlareourt presided at the Empire Parliamentarians' luncheon to Mr. Denham, Premier of Queensland, and Mr. Myers, of Auckland, at the House of Commons. The Duke of Argyll, Lord Bryee, Lord Plunket, Sir T. B. Robinson, and many members of Parliament and their wives were present. Lord Emmott, in proposing the health of the guests, paid a tribute to the reception in Australia and New Zealand of the British Parliamentarians. Their social legislation was deeply interesting and inspired by the desire to benefit the millions rather than the millionaires,

Mr. Denham advocated that the State Parliaments should be incorporated in the Parliamentary Association oh the same lines as the Commonwealth. Britishers often forgot that the States had sovereign rights. Mr. Myers detailed the reproductive character of the New Zealand debt, the popularity of the defence system, and explained the tendencies of social legislation. The Duke of Argyll said the Motherland should take hints from the dominions. The experience of the dominions in many aspects of democracy was older than that of Britain, and they had given Britain a lead in making patriotic sacrifices on behalf of defence.
