News from Noumea reports, the massacre of throe of the erew of the ketch Guadeloupe J>y natives of the island of Malekuka. The ketch was on a recruiting trip and the men had landed. The natives immediately attacked them, and, after killing them, held a cannibal feast on the spot. The captain of the ketch was uneasy at the non-appearance of his men and landed. lie was greeted by a volley from the ambushed natives and scrambled back to the boat unhurt. A wild rush was made to intercept the boat and more shots were fired, but it yot off safelv.

A SAMOAX SENSATION. Details have been received of a sensational tragedy at Apia. Four young native constables broken into the arms chest in the gaol, stole revolvers and three hundred rounds of ammunition and disappeared. Later they visited the house of a German planter named Treviranus, and told the manager, Schlitt, that they were searching for an escaped Chinese. Schlitt said there were, no Chinese and ordered them to leave the plantation. The desperadoes in reply fired, fatally wounding both Treviranus and Schlitt. The Governor organised a punitive expedition, including a number of Europeans, and surrounded the murderers. There was a fierce exchange of shots, lasting several hours. Three of the murderers wdVe shot dead and the other captured. Of the attacking party Herr Hellige was shot through the heart, an 4 another, Herr Motzkua, was severely wounded. The captured murderer wa» hanged. It is supposed that the cowboy pictures, which are shown twice weekly, had influenced the minds of the young desperadoes.
