ALPINE TRAGEDY.
THE INQUEST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Tiuiaru, Last Night. At the inquest at the Hermitage on Guide J. Richmond, before M' Pilkingtoii, J.P., and a jury of six, on Saturday evening, Guide Giuliani described how the search party found steps leading to tile avalanche, which was one mile and three-quarters long, and a quarter of a mile wide, and beyond Which, steps were not found. The body of Richmond was found much bruised. A portion of the guide-rope attached to the body had been carried a quarter of a mile. The epot had been considered completely 'safe. Richmond, said witness, was a good guide. Samuel Turner gave evidence that he saw King's party on the summit about noon on Sunday. He was with the search party, and helped to remove the body to the Hermitage. A verdict of accidental dentil was returned.
