FIRES.

TAILORING WORKSHOP GUTTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Duucdin, Saturday. Messrs J. and J. Arthur's tailoring workshop was completely gutted by firo at 3.15 this morning. The cause of tlie fire is unknown. Forty hands are thrown idle. It was insured in the Royal Exchange for £I2QO and the approximate damage is £iooo. The brigade, effected a splendid save. After a great fight it managed to confine the flames to the workshop, thus saving a block of wooden buildings, mostly shops. There was a stiff south-wester blowing. When a constable passed at -2.50 there was no sign of fire but twenty minutes j later he heard a crackling sound issuing from the building.

SHOP AND DWELLING GUTTBD. Tiinaru, Last Night. Early this morning, A. C. Kedylic, a. shopkeeper on the outskirts of th» town, being unwell, went to his shop for some medicine. He fainted, and dropped a lamp which set fire to the floor. He recovered in time to escape and call the neighbors, who, as they thought, put the firo out.
