The proposal of Mr. Thomas Welsh, a millionaire coal-owner, to provide the Cardiff City Hall with statues of ten historic Welshmen, led to a squabble with the Society of Sculptors, eluminating in the resignation of Mr. Frampton, the president, and the Council, including Mr. MacKennal. A meeting of the Society condemned the Council's abandonment of the suggestion to make the work competitive, I and resented the selection of Mr. Havard Thomas, a member of the Council, to advise the donor with regard to the placing of the commission. Stormy scenes ensued, and the Council walked out.
