THE SEPTIC TANK

SATISFACTORY REPORT. . I

At last night's meeting of the Borough Council the question oi the. alleged insanitary state of tlie septic tank wits discussed. The Borough Knginecr (Mr {'. Skitrop) reported that, as instructed by the Mayor, be had removed the covers of the septic tank for tile purpose of inspecting it in the presence of the Mayor, Dr. Valintine (Chief Health Inspector), 'Mr P. C. J. Bellringer (chairman of the Hospital Hoard), and Mr A.,H. Kendall. (district, health inspector). Dr. Valintine was perfectly satisfied, and remarked that the tank was working very well. There was absolutely no unpleasant smell arising from the tank or its ell'lu.-nt. The smell .sometimes met witk in the locality of the tank was from another source altogether, and hud no «<mnection with the tank or its effluent. The ell'lueut taken from the tank contained a very small percentage of solid matter in suspension, which gives it a cloudy appearance. This could only be removed by the use of chemicals or by extensive filter-beds. Both methods were costlv and out of the question in eonncctioM with the present septic tank site.
