S.S. HAWERA DAMAGED.

After going some | little distance it was discovered that the rudder and steering post were badly damaged, and Captain Jackson had no option but to return to port. This was accomplished without further mishap. Upon arrival at the wharf it was seen that the vessel was badly damaged, the rudder po*t being torn out of position, leaving a hole at the upper portion where the watep could enter. The cargo was taken out and transferred to the Works. It is probable that the vessel will lie beached and temporary repairs ellceted to enable the vessel to proceed to Wellington, where she will be placed on the sjip for the. neccsairv repairs to be effected.
