The mixing-house contained (iiHlUlhs of gelatine. It is believed it exploded (luring conveyance from the building. Seven men inside were blown to pieces and four outside were injured, one fatally. Four others had miraculous escapes. No trace of the structure remained.

A second explosion occurred in a sample house. Buildings for miles around were shaken to their foundations. Terror reigned in the neighboring villages. The residents rushed into the streets and horses stampeded. A glass room at Ardeer foundry collapsed and fell. Of the 300 workmen inside many were severely cut.

Received 21. p.m. London, February 21. A hundred girls were employed in the huts adjacent to the mixing house. There was a serious panic. Many fainted. Fragments injured several, one severely.
