In the tolls debate, Mr. Bristol accused the President of inconsistency in telling the suffragists that he wns unable to agree to the Suffrage- Hill, as the Democrats had not included it in their platform, while simultaneously requesting Congress to reverse itself on the tolls question, despite the party's endorsement thereof. Senator Lodge denied the accusation against the President, stating that Mr. Wilson was actuated by a desire to restore the United States' former prestige. The President was unwilling to see the United States an outlaw amongst the civilised nations. SOME OF THE SENATORS' VIEWS. Washington, February IS. The Senate is debating the repeal of the Panama tolls. Senator Chamberlain declared that Canadian railroads were responsible for the agitation aaginst the tolls. Senator Bristow alleged that the President was acting under tile influence of railroads. Other senators repudiated this. Senator Borah declared that Sir Edward Grey's Note, objecting to the railway ownership clause, meant that Britain wanted also the repeal of the clause against railroads. President Wilson is still continuing his conference with prominent men of the Democratic Party. He wishes it clearly understood that the United States' honor is involved, and holds that good faith is necessary in all j treaty obligations. FRENCH INTERESTS. Times-Sydney Sun Special Cables.
