Mr. and Mrs. A. R. S',andi*h returned to N T ew Plymouth by last night's express train. Mr. Arthur Owen, another of Taranaki's old identities, passed away yesterday at his residence, Poivderham street, at the age of 70 years.

Mrs. Hine, who had attained the ripe old age of 77 years, was one of the grand old 'settlers of Xew Zealand. She arrived in New Zealand by the sailing ship Wangamii in 1871), and settled with hor family on a farm at Tikorangi. Ab»ut ten or twelve years ago Mrs. lline came to live in retirement at New Plymouth. The members of the family who are left to mourn the loss of thei'i mother are Mr. Thomas Hine (Wangamii), Mr. James Hine (Tikorangi, on the old home). Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P. for Stratford (Toko), Mr. Edgar Hine (Toko), Miss lline (New Plymouth), and Mr. Hubert lline (Te Kuiti). One result of his sad bereavement is that Mr. Hine will lie unable to be present at the Toko show to-day, nor will he Inable to take part in the trip to Olmrn which is to be made under the auspices of the Stratford Chamber ot Commerce, starting to-day.
