Florence May Paulsen, licinsee oi'-the Terminus Hotel, .New Plymouth, was charged with having permitted an unregistered barmaid to serve in a bar in her hotel on January 27, 1914. Mr. Grey stated that the barmaid ill question was merely a friend of the defendant and was not employed by her on the occasion mentioned. It had been merely friendly assistance. His client had been unaware that it would be illegal for this girl, who was a b.irnii'.id in another hotel temporarily unemployed, lo serve in her hotel. Senr.-Sergt. Haddrcll agreed with this view of the case, and a conviction without line was entered, defendant being ordered to pay 7s costs.
