Berry, captain of the steamer Nantucket, has been placed on trial cliargied with negligent navigation, thereby causing the loss of the steamer Monroe. He pleaded not guilty. The charges dcclaro that he did not reduce the speed of the engines until one minute before the collision. A FAULTY COMPASS. TWO DEGREES OFF STANDARD. Received 12, 9.20 p.m. New York, February 12, Captaia Johnson admitted navigating the Monroe with a compass deviating two degrees from the standard compass at the time of the collision.
