Eary Grey, speaking at a civic reception, said: ''Unity of interest between the dominions and the Motherland is what I desire to find and accentuate, for unity of interest in my opinion makes for national greatness. The expansion of British influence has done a great deal for the advancement of civilisation throughout) the world, and I have come here to see what contribution Australia is making to the general scheme."
