CHAMBER OP COMMERCE.
The executive of the Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. J. B. Richards (president). W. H. H. Young, D. J. Malone, W. P. Kirkwood, R. Masters. E. Jackson. P. Thomson, and A. F. Grant. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote, through Mr. Hine, M.P.. that the application for a geological survey of Stratford and Whangamomona districts had heen forwarded to the Minister of Mincß. Mr. Meredith, secretary of the Ohura Farmers' Progressive Association, wrote relative to the forthcoming visit to the Ohura district. Arrangements were being made to show the visitors round the district, weather permitting. Some fifteen members and business men of Stratford had notified their intention of ioining the party. It was decided to again approach the Government asking that the land between Moki and Mangapapa roads, inland from Tabora, be opened up. The president stated that the land was a good level belt of country. It had been subdivided and offered for settlement 15 or lfl year 3 ago. Some of it was taken up,'but owing to the bad access, the selectors had to abandon the land, wbieh was now being held as a timber reserve bv the Land Board. The settlers in the district were anxious that , the land should be opened up, but tie Chamber had only been able to ascev- ( tain from the Government that the matter would be considered, _ and the | Chamber advised of the decision. On the motion of Messrs Young and Grant, it was decided to make further representations to the Government ->n the matter.
