SWIMMING

XKXT WEEK'S CARNIVAL. The Committee of the Swimming Club met on Tuesday night to make final arrangements for the carnival to he held on Tuesday evening next. Mr. -I. Pctrie" was appointed starter and Mr. X. R. Tcmpler cheek Btarter. Mr. C. Potts wrote resigning his post as treasurer owing to pressure of business, and Mr. H. Dewar was appointed in l)i9 place. Mr. E. Corlett was appointed callsteward for the club races.

It was decided to ask the following gentlemen to assist at the carnival on February 17: Referee, Mr. D. J. Jlalone; diving judges, Messrs. 0. E. Seabright and W. Lints; call stewards, Messrs. Oorlctt, Davey, and Staples; gatekeepers: Messrs. N. R. Templer and D. judges of swimming, -Messrs. W. P. Kirkwood, G. D. Hunter and B. FearOn; assistant-secretary, Mr. C. >H. Totts; water polo referee, Air Lister; blackboard steward, Mr. J. Thomas; costume steward, Mr. F. T. Hale; lap steward, Mr. H. L. Spratt. It was decided to ask Mr. R. H. Kivell to take charge of the refreshment department. in which position he was very successful at the previous carnival. Messrs. Spratt, Whittington and Kivell will meet, visiting competitors at the railway station. In future all club races arc to be swam in full c'pstume. Tents are to v be erected to provide extra dressing accommodation. The sub-committee set up to deal with lighting reported that four 100 e.p. lights would be provided, and that the gear would be a permanency. This will enable club races to be held in the evening, which should be a great convenience to the club, as at present it id somewhat difficult to get a good muster after work. The members of the committee will meet at the bath at 6.30 a.m. on Monday, and again on Monday evening for the purpose of erecting tents and doing other work necessary for the carnival.
