FIRES.
INCENDIARISM AT TOLAUO BAV. [ AN ARREST MADE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gixborne, Yesterday. An attempt was made on Saturday night to burn a hiiteller's shop at Tolago Hay. Sacks saturated with kerosene were discovered outside the building. Tlie lire was suppressed, but, last night the building was discovered again in flames, this time the sack being placed inside 'the building. The owner was absent from the district. The limn in charge of .the premises has been arrested. The building was destroyed. The insurance was in the National UompaiH', for £l2O. STORE AND HOUSE DESTROYED. INMATES AWAKENED IN TIME. Auckland, Yesterday. . .■: A grocery store.and dwelling opposito the tram barn at Epsom was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The premises were owned and occupied by Mrs. Mills. When the fire broke out all the occupants of the house—Mrs Mills, live children; and a. girl—were, asleep. The flames, coming from the. direction of the kitchen, promptly awakened the 1 other inmates, and all got safely out of the house. The tramway night-shift, of 20 men-turned water on the flames. The Newmarket Fire Brigade arrived later, but could only save the, adjoining buildings. Nothing was saved from Mrs Mills' or the grocery store. The house was insured for £420, the furniture for £2OO, and the. stock for £250, all in the Phoenix office.
