RETURNS FOR TTIK VICAR, SUBSTANTIA!, INCREASE. By Telugraph—Press Association. Auckland, Vesterdav. A return furnished by Mr Itho'dcs, Postmaster-General, shows that the number of letters and postcards posted in New Zealand last year was llfi,03o,80«, an Increase of .'1,801,430, parcels 2,081,080, an increase of 437,240. The letters and postcards delivered totalled, 110,408,240, an increase of 2,200,(M>, and parcels; 2,038,010, an increase of 303,043. The postage revenue of the Dominion was £042,701 in 1912 and £070,982 in 1913, an increase 01 £28,20 i. A similar increase is shown in telegraph business. In 1912 the telegrams' dealt with numbered 9,049.370, the value being £308,870, while in 1913 10.329.437 telegrams, worth £327,140, were dealt with. The number, of telephone oonnections in the Dominion in 1912 was 41/)00, and tho revenue from the service £154,934, Last year there were 40,442 connection* which produced £27C,4f19 in revenue. The system of deferred cable messages instituted on January 1, 1912, providing for transmission at half the ordi' nary charges, is being fully appreciated by the cabling public. During the Dei cember -quarter, 1912, a total of 1403 deferred messages of the -value of £1332 were forwarded from New Zealand, and 1400 messages were received. During the December quarter, 1913, there were forwarded 2110 messages of a total value of £1752, and 21514 messages wero received.
