MONEYS AUTHORISED. A .sliort discussion took place fit Uik meeting of the Clifton County Council on 'Friday on the question of the amounts on the lust Public Works Estimates for expenditure on (he roads ii: the Clifton county. In the past, (In county engineer has had notification in due course that moneys on the Estimates could be obtained for use on the roads, but since the Estimates were made up he lias not received any intimation as to the amount to be expended by tli<Council. Cr. Sullivan, who was recently in Wellington, interviewed the Minis ter for Public Works about the matter, and 011 Friday he made a brief report hj, the Council. The trend of Cr. Sullivan's remarks was that moneys hail been authorised for expenditure 011 various loans, and payment would be made when the work was put ill hand. Regarding the Uruti road, he had asked the Minister for.£111)!). but was informed that this amount eoul-1 not be paid till after March SI, but that the Council could call for £250 at any 'time. The Minister promised to see [that the .000 was granted after M\ircii 31. This, with the £!I00 subsidy, would I make £IBOO.
| Regarding the Mimi-Mokau road, the [Minister told him that £IOOO had been . voted for the road long ago, and never spent. lie then told the Minister that tlie work required on the road would jcost £IBOO, and the .Minister promised ■£l7oo. For the Pukearuhe road he said •there would be £SOO available, and on being asked for a C for £ subsidy on £IOOO, the Minister said this could lie applied for when the £IOOO was spent. i''or the l'iko road, the .Minister said £l5O had been granted last year, but was nor '•expended. For the Okoke road £SOO had been granted and an expenditure of £314 12s authorised. CISS 7s (id being still available. He had further promised to bear in mind the urgoncy of the work required 011 the Minii-Mokau road.
I It was decided that the clerk should [\vrite to the Minister for authority to ,'lexpend the money authorised for the j'foail from Matau to the Mangaopa road, and that tenders should be called for metalling the Moki road from the junction near the school to the Moki bridge.
