COM\UTTI£E REPORTS. - The following reports will be considered at to-night's meeting of the, »w Plymouth Borough Council:— E-VCLN'EKK'S KKI'UUT. iStreeU. -Approximately 112 cubic yds of metal and gravel have been used 'u repairing streets and roads. t'ootpatlis.—Twelve chains of footpaths have been covered with jjaol "ravel.. > Soltar.— lOiglit chains of soltar preparation has been laid on in Carrie stnvl. Loan works—Tlie whole of the work included in the £ll ,(!<)() loan (streets and sewers) is now complete, except, the metalling of Bell street, Wakoliehl street -and a small portion of Eliot street. This work will he carried out as soon as tiie new trailers come to hand. £-12,1)111) loan: Formation 011 Doralto road is progressing and should be completed witlrn six week. The whole of the timber for the bridge is on the ground; the concrete foundations are in, and l(i mi'ii and two horse teams are employed 011 this work. The Lianlct street filling work is just about completed. This lilling will be covered with gaol gravel until it has sufficiently consolidated to take the metal. Eleven men and six teams are employed 011 this work. The storm ~w ater pipes at Taylor's corner at Eitzroy are laid and the metalling is now being done. Kerbing and channelling—Weymouth street, from the railway crossing to the baths, is completed. Silver street is now being done. Waterworks new intake—This work is progressing- satisfactorily. The waferrace across the llat has been excavated to a depth of about 12 feet, through .boulders. The tunnel drive, lift by 4ft, has been put through the hill. Thirtythree men are employed on this work-. ' Metalling 011 loan work—The traction .engine is at work at the crusher site hauling boulders) from the river to the crusher.

Waterworks—The waterworks caretaker reports everything working satisfactorily at the filters. ELECTRICAL ENG FNEER. The poles which were so long delayed in transit have at last come to hand and several have been erected. About 150 of the meters on order have been received. The remainder are just landing. The copper wire ordered is alio coming to hand now. Plans of electric supply area were forwarded to the Public Works Department last month as required in connection with tile Council's application for higher voltage 011 transmission lines and extended area. ELECTRIC LIGHT DEPARTMENT. Expenditure 011 extensions for month of January 1014, are: Machinery, transformer £301; wire £l7; total' £3lB. HEALTH DEPARTMENT. During the month of January I have made inspection of the different bakehouses, hotels and laundries in the central portions of the town and iind they are all in fairly clean order and condition. I visited Nicholl's laundry in Gill street in response to a complaint re smoke nuisance, and oil looking over the premises J. could find 110 foundation for any complaint. Stables.—These are all being kept m good order, being well cleaned out and the manure and refuse being regularly removed. I would endorse the suggestion ■of Inspector Kendall re the old stabla in Cill street mentioned in his Novcmher report. ABATTOIR MANAGER. During- the month there were slaughtered for local consumption 154 cows, 17 calves, 513 sheep, 221 lambs, 80 pigs. Compared with the corresponding month of last year they show an increase of 4 calves and a decrease of 7 cattle, 100 sheep, 3!) lambs and 22 pigs. Three cows, one pig and one lamb were condemned. Slaughtered for export: nil; a decrease of 33 bulls and 247 calves. Fees due for the month amount to £IOO 15s; rents, £3 5s fld; extraordinary trallic fees received, £1; total, £lll Is 3d. A decrease of £4O 17s !)d.

WORKS COMMITTEE. The committee recommends: — That the Agricultural ,Society be granted permission to make the 'usual charge for admission to the Racecourse Reserve on the occasion of the annual show on 23th and 2Gth inst; that the Agricultural Society be granted the use of Avenue road reserve sections between Ifendric street and Wakefield street during show week, the Council not to accent any responsibility for loss of stock or for damage done by such stock; that the Harbor Hoard be informed that provision is made in the waterworks loan for the extension of the watermains along Moturoa road, and that the work will be proceeded with in due course: that upoa payment of the £3 connection Mr. John Grylls be granted three months' extension of time within which to con•nect his property in St. Auliyn street ■with the sewers; that Messrs Trevor Bros. Ltd.. he informed that the Council note the remarks set out in their letter with reference to extraordinary traffic, but reserve the right in case of damage being done to the roads to prefer <i claim under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 11108; that a copy ot the report of the Borough inspector with reference to betting in a certain licensed billiard room l>e forwarded to the sergeant of police with a request that the police take action, the Borough inspector having no power to do so; that the inspector lie instructed not to renew the license of the above billiard room until tin 1 ijuestion has been consid•ered by the Council; that Mr. Ilnggett •be informed that the work in Fillis tlreet asked for by him will cost approximately .C-tO. and the Council cannot see its way to authorise it to i><done this year; that part of the amount •allocated in the streets and water loan for channelling the footpath in Fillis street he utilised for metalling in that street: that Mr. Ridd be informed that Ihe Council will contribute one half of the cost of a substantial wire fence (as described, in paragraph 4 of the second ■ schedule of "The Fencing Act, 1008") between his properly and the Borough's Powdcrhani street section, and that if Jic desires an iron fence any additional cost must be borne by him; that the '.Borough engineer be authorised to cou■struct a concrete culvert in Cut field •road as soon as the necessary easements arc obtained (estimated cost £-17.")); •that the plan of the levels of TlohlsworAliy road and upper part of Carrington road as submitted by the Borough engineer be approved, ami lie lie authorised to proceed with tl\,e formation of the street; that as temporary expedient
