There were two large holes in her bottom, but tarpaulins were utilised to prevent' an inrush. The water gradually invaded the engineroom, ami the (ires were drawn to prevent an explosion. Fhe drifted aimlessly throughout the night. Her distress signals were seen at daylight by fishing boats, which came to her assitance, but the captain refueed to leave her. A boat was removing personal belongings from the Cambewerra when suddenly she lurched and sank. The drew, who were thrown into the sea. were rescued in an exhausted condition.
The police received a telegram that three men belonging to the mate's missing boat had arrived at Dongarrn. The remaining three had camped on the beach twenty miles away.
