WELLINGTON SESSIONS. HASSETT BEOFRE THE COUP*. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, three counts were preferred against Patrick Hassett, all of which arose out of the same set of circumstances; (1) that on November 3, he attempted to murder John Cullen, Commissioner of Police for the Dominion; (2) taking part in a riot in Taranaki street, and (3) that with intent to do actual bodily harm ten Inspector Cullen he discharged a revolver loaded with destructive material. The charge arose out of an occurrence during a riot near Mount Cook Barracks on November 3, when the hose had eventually to be turned on the crowd to disperse a portion of them, ft was alleged that, Hassett fired several shots at Inspector Cullen. Other persons were struck by bullets about the same time. The jury returned a verdict of "not guilty" on the first and third eounts, and "guilty" on the second. Sentence was deferred. KITSTHER RIOT CASES. Wellington. Last Night. William George Cockcll pleaded not ouiltv to taking part iu a riot in Featherston street on November S._ The jury found a verdict of not guilty. Carl .folmson was charged with taking pare in the same riot and with assaulting special constables. The jury found *ccused guilty on the first count and not guilty on the second.
