TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETIXG. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Rifle Association was held in the Drill Hall last evening, when Colonel Okey presided over a good attendance, country clubs being well represented. The retiring secretary, Mr T. King, presented a statement of accounts for the last meeting. This showed receipts to have been £IBB 7s 4<{, the principal items being members' fees and subscriptions £lO9 6s Od, affiliation fees £8 Us, Hawcra donations £7 10s fid, Stratford donations £23 19s Gd, New Plymouth donations ££2 ss, Pohokiira Rifle Club £5, challenges fci 17s. The expenditure amounted to £l7B IGs 4t\ (prize-money £124 7s, and marking £lfi 12a). This left a credit balance of £l4 lis. An the balance-sheet had not been audited, its adoption was held over. The report showed th t the membership was now 74, as against 64 the mevious year.
Officers wore elected as follow:—Pat ron, Col. Ellis, V.D.; president. Col. Okey, V.D.; vice-presidents, Col. Malone Messrs. H. ,T. H. Okey, M.P., J. B. Ilin:-. M.P., VV. P Kirkwood (Mayor of Stafford), T. B. Crump (Mayor of Eltham!. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. J. Hill: executive, Lieut. Hartnell, Riflemen C K. Bacon, C. Jackson, T. King, W. Oliver, A. H. Guy, 11. C. Evans, 11. Cilshnan, and A. Whitingforth,-president and secretary exofficio; auditor. Rfm. A. L. Humphries; council, Riflemen W. Slaughter, F. J. Shepphcrd, M. Carey, J. A. Colmer, G. 11. Taylor, and Lieut. Humphrey, with the executive. The president and secretary were appointed to operate on the banking a?count. The secretary's remuneration was left to the executive. Rfm. T. King proposed that in future matches, with the exception of tenni3' matches, should not be more than two | ranges. Three-range matches, he e.on- [ sidercd, were out of date.—"Rim. C. .Tuck- | son seconded this, and alfto suggest oil that prizes should be given for a short range and long-range aggregate.—The resolution was carried. l.ieut. Hartnell said that up to the nreseut they had not had sufficient funds to make the meeting attractive for outsiders, but they hoped to do more ; n 'his direction in future. He emphasise 1 the fact that this was a Taranaki meeting, and not a Mew Plymouth one. Sergeant-Major Bond stated that service matches should be included so as to cater for Territorials. Territorials, lie said, were not used to bull's-eye shooting, and would not compete against riflemen, who were always using the. bull's-eye. This led to some controversy, but the majority of members were o f opinion that men who first learnt bull's-eye shootin? could learn service conditions more readiiv.
