SPORTING.

JiII.MONT sI'.MMKII MEETING. NOTES m: " MOTUIiOA." the Lgmont llacing Club'* summer meeting takes place at Hmvera to-day ami to-morrow. Acceptances for tuday's event- are very large, and winners appear to lie well concealed. This popular gathering promises to attract a liig crowd of local sports, and a good day's sport should reward those who make the trip. Since llie last meeting, held at llawera. considerable improvements liave been added to the ligmont Club's already !inc appointments, principal of which are concrete steps capable of accommodating about a thousand spectators in front, of the grandstand. Alterations have ben made on the course proper to allow of straight runs for horses starting from the mile and a-quarter an.l six furlongs posts. About 30 chains af rails have been erected on the course proper, and the houses have been considerably enlarged. The club's appointments have now been brought thoroughly up to duto. The programme opens with the Ohawe Hack Hurdles (one mile and a-half), for which seven horses are carded. Ngatiruanui will probably be a warm order, punters remembering, no doubt, that Starter C. O'Connor (who will officiate to-day) has always succeeded in getting the fractious son of Maniapoto awav with the other runners. Thirteen have been paid up for in the Hying Handicap (six furlongs), and punters will have a task to pick a winner tilery. Patronale (Gray) and Avaunce (l)celey) may improve 011 their promising form at Trentham, though local sports are going solidlv for Astor and (,'rattan. and our Waverley friends will not hear of Zetes' defeat. It looks very open. The Aleremere Hack Handicap has drawn -J4 horses, and these, include Lord Lupin. Bradamante, and Tyson—all fairly .smart beginners. Though small numerically, the fieM for the Kgmoiit Cup (one mile and alialf) does not lack quality, and the principal ''draw" of the meeting is the presence of Kmperador, Bronze, Los Angelos and Co. Kmperador may not shine over the distance, and Bronze's recent form has been very disappointing. Los Angelos ran a fine race in the Wellington Cup, and the soft going should suit him. It is stated that 11. Cray will ride the Porirua horse. Allegation arrived on Friday last, and looks iit. J. Conquest will pilot the Aucklander. Probably the most dangerous ones—oll Trentham form—are Byron (Decley) and Leonta (Young). This pair finished ilmost in lime, third and fourth respectively, in the Wellington Cup, and they will be running on strongly when some of the others are stopping to-day. Con the Sliaughraun may be the best of 'i weak light-weight division. Tile fittest, horses in the race; appear to be Bvron and Lconta.

A poor lot will be saddled up for the Ladies' Purse. < !eo. Laing has brought Sweet Breeze up from Wanganui for the ract>, and the well-named •aughtcr of Sweet Simon and Hurricane may give a, good account of herself.

Probably a small field will line up for tha Egniont Stakes (six furlongs).. Sir iloseley is a. certain starter, and somo people wouldn't look mst a ,: ' rattling good three-yer-ohl, though Milt; Cftrn (who ran second, at Trentham) : may. worry the older horse for part of the journey.

Another lot of -24 have been accepted for in the Waipapa Hack Handicap (seven lurlougs). Quite one-half of, the crowd are poor nags, but Record) Di Gama and Canute can all go fairly fasit, ■and the race should he worth watching, To-day's racing will conclude with the Whareroa Welter (-.even furlongs), and if started, llewi Poto, Chillies and Austin may run prominently. Dearest, although accepted for, is said to be 'll her box at Porirua.
