WELLINGTON WORKS PURCHASED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington) Last Night. It is understood that Messrs. Lever Bros., of Port Sunlight, h;\.vc purchased the business of the New Zealand Candle Company at Kaiwura, which includes tha cnndlemaking plant, also boiling-down works on the hill near by. The agreement has just been ratified by the shareholder* of the company, and the transfer will take place shortly. The works, it is reported, will be conducted upon the present site and under the present manager, though they will he run in conjunction with extensive soup manufacturing works, which are to be erected by Lever Bros, at Petone. The negotiations for the purchase of the business took place during the recent visit to Wellington of Sir William Lever.
