BOXING.
IRE LAX 1) v. MUKPIIY. All lovers of the noble art in Taranaki will view with pleasure the revival of the Xew Plymouth Boxing Association, as indicated by the fact that airangenients have been made to match Denny Murphy againsL Barney Ireland for the middle-weight championship of -Xew Zealand and a purse of ,150. in the Theatre Royal, Xew Plymouth, on February It. The Association fell on evil days a short time ago, and at one time, from a variety of causes, looked like fading away altogether;, indeed if l! had not been for the persistence of itsecretary it would assuredly have done so. Recently, however, new blood has been infused into the committee and the Association has regained its feet, and as an earnest of its virility has arranged a professional match, which shouid attract tlie attention of all supporters of boxing. Murphy is the holder of the welter and middle-weight championships of Xew Zealand, and Ireland has a IUI of good performances so that the content should be a good one. Mr. Tim Tracpy. of Wellington, a recognised authority on boxing, will control itlie match, which fact is itself an assurance of a clean contest.
