LONDON MARKETS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, January 35. Sheep—Ordinary North Island 4%d. Australian sheep, light and heavy, 4 l-l(id, ewes ,'1 IS-lOd. Lambs: Inferior light-weight 5%d. Beef: Hinds 4 Hud. South American lambs, first quality, 5%d, second quality 5%d. Beef: Chilled fores -Id. Other meats unchanged. Rabbits—Unchanged and inactive, owing to the decline in the value of skins.
At the wool sales, Tbistletool realised I.T/sd, with an average of 10y s d. During the sales 60,000 bales were sold for the homo market, 55,000 for the Continent, GOOO for America, and COOO were held over.
Wheat—Firm, on higher American and Argentine markets and expected smaller world's shipments. A slight advance is asked, but there is quiet demand; ,35s 7'/ s (l is asked and 35s 4'/»d bid for an Australian January-February shfpnient; 17,500 quarters, per sailer, March shipment, sold at 35s Od. The. whe.it and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,505,000 bushels, for the Continent 1,023,000 bushels, Atlantic shipments 245,000 bushels, Pacific 25,000 bushels. The total to Europe is 1.155,000 bushels, including .Australasia 410,000 bushels.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. Following is the High Commissioner's market report (quotations, unless otherwise specified, arc average market prices on spot) :
Mutton —There is dull sale for all qualities of mutton. North Island 5d per lb, this season's best quality last season's prices declining to 4 7 / s d. Lamb—Canterbury (i'/id; ((notations nominal for other than Canterbury; this season's 7Vid. High prices aro restricting business in the lamb market.
Beef—The New Zealand stock is exhausted and prices cannot be quoted. Chilled hinds sd. fores 4<l.
Butter—The market is unchanged. Danish, per cwt., 124s to 1275, New Zealand 112s to 110s. Australian 108s to •112s, Argentine 110s to 112s, Siberian 108s to 112s.
Cheese. —The market is steady and prices well maintained. Hemp—The. Manila market is firmer. Reports from Manila indicate a. firm market. There has been active buying on American account. Fair current on spot pei; ton, £2B 10s, January to March £2O. The. output from Manila for the week was 21,000 bales. The New Zealand market is quiet, and small business doing, chiefly at second hand. .Dominion sellers are holding nfT. January lo March good-fair, per ton, £2O 10s, fair -C24 (in. February to April about 5s more.
Sisal -The New York market is firmer. Sellers are. asking . r i.75 cents. Tho latest quotations por ton are C 27 10s to £2B, according to quality. Oerman East African i<t in good demand and prices arc firm, in sympathy with other fibres. Second grade, per ton, £-27 10s, third grade C2C IDs. ■ Tow—A better tone prevails this week and prices arc- firm. Second grade £.12 ss. third grade £ll sa. Cocksfoot seed—Tho market is firm, but the demand is limited to Danish, which can be obtained at 545. The average- price of bright clean Mew Zealand seed, weighing 171b per bushel, on spot, is 55s Cd. Peas—The market is quiet hut firm. March to April shipments New Zealand partridge, per 5041b, 445. Ticans—English beans in good c-ondi-L tion and selling freely. There is a limited demand for other descriptions. New ! Zealand t'.a.q. (old crop), per 5041b, 30s. i Wool.—The wool sales close to-day.
The market has been strong and the lone, has improved as the sales pro- , gressed. There wits good demand from the Continent, and the home trade was more active than during the previous series. America has taken about 5000 bales, chiefly confined to the be?t grades of medium and fine crossbrcds. She is expected to operate more freely later on. Crossbrcds improved from \U\ to Id, chieily owing to a temporary scarcitv. ' Estimated values arc: Superior "merinos Is Id to Is 2d, medium 10(1 to lid, inferior Sd to o'/ 2 d, fine ! crossbrcds, all grades, 12'/ 2 d to Is 2d. | medium crossbrcds, all grades, 10'/ 3 d to 11'/.d coarse crossbrcds, all grade?) 10(1 to 'fid. One. hundred bales of New Zealand were held over, nearly all old stock. The Bradford trade is gradual)improving, and with prospects of cheap monev the outlook is favorable.
