AXOTHER BATHING FATALITY. i By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. John Ornstein, aged 21, was drowned at Ponsonby on Saturday afternoon. Ho was last seen at 3 p.m. sitting on the rocks in bathing dress. Later his friends became alarmed that ho had not returned home, and the police were advised. Meantime two young women found his body floating near the shore, dragged it on the beacli and applied" icbtorative measures. Though they wove subsequently assisted by a doctor, their efforts to restore life were futile. Deceased was' a strong swimmer, and it is supposed he was seized with a fit.
DETERMINED TO END IT. Pahiatua, Monday. The body of Robert Smith Pattison, a farm hand, was found in the Tiraameft river yesterday afternoon. Half the face' was blown away and a brick •xm tied round the neck. Deceased's gun was found near the body, Pattison camo from Palmerston North ten weeks ago and was employed by H. B. Lethbridge, sheep farmer, at Ngaturi. Other employees on the farm did not notice anything unusual in deceased's manner. On Saturday night ho. slept in a whare by himself. He was missed on Sunday morning at breakfast. He left a note scribbled oil a magazine stating that the balance of the. cartridges purcliased on Saturday would ho found on the road three miles from the farm. The body was recovered in four feet of water 100 yards from the wh.'.re.
SUDDEN DEATH. Gisborne, Monday. James Murray Dobie, a land salesman, aged 41, died suddenly. He had been drinking heavily. DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Christehureh, Last Night, A man named William George Morris, living on Shakespeare Road, Greymouth, was drowned at New Brighton this afternoon. He went out bathing with another man, named John Sentiman. also from fSrcymouth. Both were poor swimmers, anil they got out of their depth. Sentiman was held up by a rescuer, and brought to shore, both being badly exhausted. Morris, when last seen was.lying face downwards in d*ep water, with Hie rope marking the bathing area lying across his back. He disappeared, however, and although several attempts were made to get to him he could not be found again. The two had just returned from a trip to the Auckland Exhibition, and were on the.r way home. Morris' mother is still in I Auckland, living in Church street, Ponsonfcy.
SUDDEN DEATH IN HOSPITAL. Gisborue, Last Night. At the inquest concerning the death of James Dobil, a bind salesman, wuo expired at the hospital yesterday after a drinking bout, the medical evidence suggested that death was possibly due to corrosive poisoning, and the inquiry was adjourned pending a report from tin; Government Analyst on the contents of deceased's stomach. An empty battle which had contained a patent medicine, of which, according to medical testimony, phosphoric acid was a constituted'part, was found near the deceased's lied at his home.
