' There is a particularly strong demand for good classes, while mediums were on a par with the closing rates at last sales. Melbourne, January 20. The second series of woo! sales has opened. Competition is keen and well sustained throughout. Prices compared with December aro in tho sellers' favor. BEET SUGAR. London, January 10. Professor Licht estimates that the production of beet sugar has decreased 259,0(K1 lons and that the campaign will show a surplus of 140,000 tons. LONDON' DAIRY PRODUCE RKPORT. Messrs K (Irifliths and Co. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated London, December 12, IMS:— Butter.—Trade throughout the weekhas been good, and general supplies have well cleared. At the close of the week the lone is not quite so strong, and with heavy arrivals advised for January, buyers are not quite so keen, and will"doubtless buy only as they require the goodsAustralian: There lias been a fair demand for all grades. Unsalted is still selling at a discount, particularly the secondary qualities. Our colonial friends must do all they possibly can to turn out mure best goods, and so make top price. Host goods are always the more easily sold, and please all concerned in the transaction. New Zealand: The butters that arrived per s.s. Ruapehu have been well cleared, the few that are remaining unsold being held for top price. Australian arrivals for this week consisted of: Per s.s. Otway, 30,(100 boxes; s.s. Shropshire, 15,000 boxes; s.s. Demosthenes, 531)4 boxes. . Danish: The market is one kroner higher, with a fair general enquiry. Siberian: Ercsh arrivals are very limited, and there has been a fair trade on cold store stocks, which arc now in small compass. Argentine: Supplies continue light,, with prices unchanged. Competition was easy at the hammer j and several pens were passed, but were mostly disposed of later.
