The,opening of the new coal mine of tliu Wnipa Railway ami Collieries, Ltd., Blear Xgaruawahia, i* now within a mensurable distance- The manager is putting in prospecting drives preparatory to opening np the faces to enable a considerable output to he available immediately the railway is completed. Thi>. opening np of this new coal mine will, it is expected, give employment to between 21}!) and 111)0 .men.
FARMERS' MUTUAL IXSURAXCE. Palmerston. Friday. A meeting of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Co. directors of the Wellington province decided to consider at their next meeting the question of lending small loans to farmers on mortgage, in lieu of placing the amount on fixed deposit. The lire losses for the year commencing April 1 last were only £20(1. The total insurances to date were close on £-240,000.
AUCKLAND VALUATIONS. Auckland, Yesterday. The eityi valuations, inclusive of Parnell and Archhill, show an increase in the capital value (luring the past vear of £],-23!>,0M). -Excluding I'arnell 'and Archhill the increase is CT.US.ti 1!).
