WESTLAND'S JUBILEE.
CELEBRATIONS AT ROSS AND KUMATiA, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, Yesterday. Jubilee day was celebrated at Ross on Saturday and at Kumara yesterday. The main streets of t'he towns were very prettily decoratcW. t'he arches being especially line. The Mayor of Kumara, Mr. J. A. Murdock, extended a hearty welcome 'to the pioneers. Speeches Were also given by Messrs Robertson. (Mayor of Lawrence), Joseph Grimmond, .A. S. Malcolm, M.P., and IS. W. Russell, M.P, The speakers thanked the Ktimara people for their welcome. The weather, whidh was not favorable, provided a text for facetious reference to the old miners who used to pray for rain in order to have good wash-ups. The Vice-regal party arrived at noon from GrcyaiouAh, and the assemblage, gave them a hearty reception, the Mayor- making an appropriate speech. An address was then presented to his Excellency, who duly acknowledged the scntimenta expressed therein. The visitors were entertained at lunch.
The weather was too met to carry out the. outdoor progrsummc, procession and visits to the old mining sites, etc., as originally planned, so an adjournment was miido to the Adelphi Theatre, where a eono'ert, presided over by the Mayor of Lawrence, was held. Speeches, songs and recitations were giiven. The theatre, was packed to the doors, and an enjoyable time was spent.
