A picturesque instance of Japanese Intro worship is reported from Kobe, whori; iSanjiu Murano, a millionaire business magnate, lias announced his intention of consecrating his life and fortune to the spirit of the late (ieneral Nogi, the hero of Port Arthur,' who, together with his wife, committed suicide by hari-kari 011 the night of the funeral of Emperor Mutsuhilo last year. Murano has decided to retire from business and has severed bis connection with all the concerns in which he has held important posts. The announcement was made 011 the anniversary of t-he tragic death of the great soldier, whose loyalty and devotion to the country and its ruler have been held in great admiration and reverence by the. retiring business man. ; Murano will build a temple at J'uhhimi, in the vieinit.v of the mausoleum of Kmporor Mutsuhito, as a memorial to Weneral Xogi, and in that sanctuary lie and Mrs. Murano intend to spend their remaining days. He will also build an industrial school for children of the poor, iu order to cultivate the spirit 0!' industry and the love of work, which the late General Xogi always insisted upon for the. rising generation of Japan. For this purpose Mi'. Murano has given one million yen. Murano started his life as a modesl municipal ottieiul, and the fortune lie lias amassed is due to his own hard work and business talent, lie is now (>t> years of age.
