CRICKET.

AUSTRALIAN. TEAM'S TOUR. BOARD OF CONTROL'S POSITION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, January 5. The reason why the Australian Board of Cricket Control may withhold its sanction of the proposed visit of Sims' team to New Zealand is that the New Zealand Cricket Council has been negotiating with the promoter without consulting the Board. When Mr. Orchard was here he pointed out that if the team visited New Zealand without the sanction of the Australian cricketing authorities complications might arise. The Board is anxious to help New Zealand cricket, but although not averse to the trip, is desirous that everything should be in proper order. The Sydney Morning Herald says that, it ivill probably be found that, the Board will not consider the applications of players for permission, but will place the onus of the whole matter on the shoulders of the New Zealand Cricket Council. The primary reason why the Board was formed was to control international cricket. If Australian teams are allowed to. negotiate with the governing bodies of- other countries with a view to arranging tours Uhen the. good work already accomplished has gone for nought. It rests with tho New Zealand Council to put matters right. 'A FALSE ALARM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Yesterday. The cablegram from Melbourne stating that the visit of Sims' team may fall I through is a false? alarm, apparently based on the assumption that no reply has been sent to the Doui'di of Control regarding the attitude of the New Zealand Council, but the. Council's reply should reach the Boa I'd on Wednesday. The. Council has told the board of its financial arrangement with Sims. It will consider the itinerary this week and regards t'he tour as a certainty.
